What happens if you cant afford to pay inheritance tax?

If you can't afford to pay the inheritance tax that is due in full, you'll be charged interest on the total amount of both the outstanding tax and any unpaid payments. The unpaid sum must then be paid in full once the assets have been sold. Alternatively you can seek finance such as bridging finance to raise the money required to settle your tax liability.

Can I borrow money to pay inheritance tax?

Personal representatives can seek for a loan to pay inheritance tax using the estate's assets as collateral. There are a few conditions that must be met so its best to speak to an advisor as soon as possible as inheritance tax must be paid within 6 months of registering the death.

Do I need proof of income for a bridging loan?

No, most bridging lenders do not need evidence of income. The two most important factors in securing any type of bridging finance are: 1) Assets upon which the loan is secured ie. a property; and 2) a viable exit strategy to repay the loan.
